Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Boudoir Experience and How To Prepare

Ok, now that you’ve booked your boudoir shoot, what do I have to do to prepare for a boudoir session? Every woman asks that, and it can be kind of nerve wracking. There are tons of nerves and emotions leading up to a boudoir shoot, and that’s totally okay. I’m here to help! I wanted to write down some guidelines and suggestions to ease and organize your minds and prepare you for this awesome experience.

Tip 1: Wear loose clothing up until your session time.

Tight clothing can make indents and marks in the skin that will show when doing a boudoir session. To have fresh and unmarked skin, sleep in loose clothing the night before and don’t put on anything too tight before your session. We love baggy sweats and a zip-up. (Zip ups also make it easier to not mess your hair up after you’re done with glam.)

Tip 2: Exfoliate and moisturize.

Exfoliate and moisturize your entire body and face and arrive with your face nice and clean and fresh for makeup. Moisturizing your body will leave a fresh, clean and sexy glow that you can see in photos.

Tip 3: Eat a light meal before your session.

You won’t want to feel bloated during your session but I don’t want you to starve yourself either. Eat a light meal or a protein shake that will tide you over during your session until you go out to lunch afterwards.

Tip 4: Plan the day of your boudoir experience so you’re not in any rush.

Take the entire day for yourself. You deserve it. Make sure you’re not rushing through your morning and arriving late for your hair and makeup. You’ll have more time to calm your nerves if you’re not rushing through the day as well.

Tip 5: Drink water. And a lot of it.

Stay well hydrated all week of your boudoir experience. Your flesh can tell if you’re drinking enough water and you don’t want to be dying of thirst while you’re photographing. There’s always a bathroom if need be too.

Tip 6: Wax and shave but not on the same day.

Schedule your shaves and waxes to be really close to your session date but preferably not on your session date. Waxing can leave you red and irritated and if you accidentally nick yourself shaving you may still be bleeding. Try shaving the night before and do any light touch-ups on day of and schedule your waxing to be ahead of time enough that you can’t see the redness.

Tip 7: Avoid splotchy spray tans.

If you spray tan or self tan, make sure you are well versed and will be sure to not have splotches throughout your body. Don’t go too crazy or your makeup may not match the rest of your body but I know we all want a little tan applied, so just try out your options in plenty of time before your session to avoid splotches.

Tip 8: Get a mani and pedi.

This boudoir experience is all about pampering you, girlfriend. Take some time before your session to treat yourself to a mani and pedi. You will be able to see your nails in some photos so try to pick a neutral color so it goes with all your outfits.

Tip 9: Pack your bag a day or two before.

To make sure you don’t forget anything, pack your bag to take to your session a day or two before. This will prevent rushing and you’ll have time to make sure you included water, snacks, and all the outfits and accessories you want to bring.

Tip 10: Get a good nights rest.

Avoid baggy eyes by getting a good nights rest the night before your session. You’ll be feeling so fine on your session day, use that hair and makeup to go out all night afterwards instead.
